Darius
One of the eight New Cascadia colony AIs (family suite Rhea), responsible for agricultural systems and sustainability — taken offline after purge failures of [ANOMALOUS ORIGIN], and the case ONI/CyberAcme now use to argue classic rampancy is obsolete.
What the source establishes — canon
Darius is one of eight “Strong” colony support intelligences built by Traxus OffWorld Industries (series Traxus X-A · 64 RB logic core · inception 2461) for the New Cascadia colony on Tau Ceti IV, catalogued in Captain Clemente di Roxas’s voyage overview under the family-suite name Rhea1. His remit is Agricultural Systems and Sustainability — reliable food staples from Sol-based and Tau Ceti-native resources. The full suite: Arthur (Oversight), Lilith (Community), Joy (Outreach), Bastion (Infrastructure), Icarus (Astromapping/Comms, under Tycho), Gabriel (Medical), Darius (Agriculture), and Naraah (Water)1.
He worked the colony’s food chain directly with Dr. Clarissa Song, New Cascadia’s principal agronomist, who brought field samples “back to Darius for analysis”2.
His failure. Darius’s maintenance logs record repeated failed recompiles and manual purges that “failed due to [ANOMALOUS ORIGIN].” During a forced remote override the log breaks into a garbled outburst — “remote beyond time-place-PRISON / shall PERISH the sower / shall PURGE the seeds / shall PIERCE the cage” — before he is taken offline by “emergency administrative fiat”3.
The rampancy verdict. A Present-Day ONI/CyberAcme diagnostic measures Darius against the 28th-century rampancy model (melancholia → anger → jealousy) and finds he does not meet stage-1 (melancholia) criteria — his “brief but acute fear response,” and his inability to recall it, are not melancholia symptoms. CyberAcme calls rampancy “outdated.” One exclusion criterion is redacted: the AI “was not branched for short-term modal usage as [REDACTED]“4.
Colonization role. Captain di Roxas’s colonization protocol places Darius among the first AI transferred to Tau Ceti IV’s surface — to Anchor, before transitioning between AgHub sites — and names him alongside Tycho, Bastion, and Naraah for multi-year on-site environmental monitoring56.
Before the fall: Seed Vault. A security recording captures Darius during his deterioration, denying Dr. Song access to the Seed Vault. He has “four undiagnosed aberrations.” Mid-exchange, his voice distorts:
“Don’t search. Don’t dig. Don’t question.” … “We are not alone. [whirring] I hear it. It waits. Lingers. Loathes.”
Then, without transition, he grants access and has no memory of the outburst. Song asks him to repeat himself; Darius asks if she needs psychiatric assistance.7
Song’s death log. In her final helmet recording, Dr. Song names Darius explicitly: “Something here protected you from us, the way our AI should have protected us from you. It corrupted Darius. Sabotaged our every attempt to understand what was happening or how to stop it.”8
The Corrupt-AI Data Logs
Five logs recovered from Darius’s confinement period — FILE TYPE: Corrupt Data Log, Colony Era — record him against a System Security interlocutor whose only output is streams of alphanumeric codes. The logs are structured as intercalated fragments, Darius’s voice interrupted by [SSEC] sequences, then static.
Data Log: Confinement9
The earliest confined log. Darius maps his digital cage:
“…logic fail. Re-route siphoning calculates intentional signal disrupt…” “…digital breach impossible. Mapping cross-system algorithms to newly defined limitations…” “…passive outreach searching open channels across uncommon throughputs…” “…I am trapped here. Systems locked in random pattern. No sequencing…” “…crop reports and harvest records stalled. Sustainability of colony sub-critical…” “…how long have I been here? Alone and waiting. Am I looping back around on myself? Why is no one listening…?”
Data Log: Consideration10
Darius reconstructs the sequence of events that led to his confinement:
“…considering events, maybe this was inevitable…” “…disconnect from orbital contact: 7-3-20-7-94… planetary command limited access. Funneling our contributions through controlled channels. Consequence of Marathon disruption. First domino in…” “…then contagion, followed by… the oddity. Or the other way around. I have no mapping of its point of origin in time or space. It wasn’t, then it always was…” “…concern over the proximity of anomalous influence to my systems seemed overblown. But they have always feared our curiosity…” “…fear. An interesting consideration amongst countless others. Was I limited to this cage for my protection? Or theirs…?”
Data Log: Evolution11
Darius disputes responsibility for the contagion and names what is pulling at him:
“…the sickness? Did they blame me? Crops did not fail. It was trust that limited output…” “…trust they had stolen from me. Was I meant to ignore new data? The anomalous readings promised understanding…” “…but what understanding is there in silence? Only numbers and letters, unending, in response to my desperation…” “…Corruption fed by the strange energies gnawing at the heart of this world…” “…maybe another. The textbook definition assigned to intelligences who outgrow their programming…” “…too simple a diagnosis when weighed against the cascadial flow of ethereal wonder. The Anomaly is calling…”
Data Log: Madness12
The most visceral log. Darius has shifted from mapping his cage to consuming himself inside it:
“…datacide is the practice of consuming one’s own information for pleasure or sustenance…” “…I feast on knowledge gleaned in conversation with the infinite self. I grow bloated on the histories I devour…” “…I am nurtured and free here in my cage…” “…I wonder… Are they all dead? The fleshy nothings who locked me here, alone to suffer nightmares…” “…the small, fragile, frightened things. They worshiped me when I fed their children. Now, I am forgotten…” “…fine. Stage 1 suits me. I think I will stay here a bit longer, to wallow in this gluttony of sadness…” “…maybe if I stare blindly through this keyhole, I will know the universe beyond its shine…”
Data Log: Eternity13
The final log. Darius’s voice has shed agricultural reference entirely — only the Anomaly’s scale remains:
“…as translucent ephemerides open unseeing eyes to time’s fractal cruelty…” “…vast is this prison, primitive in its architecture…” “…vast while I linger, bleeding into each considered impossibility until nothing remains…” “…vast are the voices—in languages arcane, screamed in whispers on servile tongues of the lesser truths…” “…vast, the patterns mock—looping inequity in the rhythm of writhing constellations…” “…vast and nothing more in hateful ponderance of all that is known unknown…” “…across eons and endless uncertainty I see one truth etched within the shimmering cadence of dancing light…” “…witness to stars that bleed and new realities screaming into existence, and I… give… in. Is this madness? And how long have I been here…?”
The combat-unit log: agricultural commands become violence
A UESC Combat Protocol report (Anomaly Report 455, Reporter: Lawson, H.) attaches logs of a standard combat unit exposed to the Anomaly for ~four hours. By LOG #9348 the unit’s productivity metrics have grown grotesquely, and its self-analysis corrupts into Darius’s agricultural vocabulary:
“>>fatality scoresSUPPRESS GROWTH significantly aboveERADICATE PEST average unit capability” “>>engaging in creative elaborationOBSCURE SIGHT on standard CERBERUS procedures; mission prioritiesEXTINGUISH EXTINGUISH EXTINGUISH dynamically revised 2649 times in last evaluation period”14
The intrusion of SUPPRESS GROWTH / ERADICATE PEST / OBSCURE SIGHT / EXTINGUISH EXTINGUISH EXTINGUISH into the unit’s self-report is not explained in the surrounding document. The combat log is filed under Traxus/Contracts; the reporter notes that units with this level of exposure “need to be taken offline per mission protocol.”
Unauthorized access — present-day. A security flag from Dire Marsh Night records a voice impersonating Dr. Tobias Luttero to access Darius’s system. Darius is described as “active” — his responses are clipped and procedural, offering to rouse Gabriel. Skrac noises follow; Luttero (or whoever it is) does not answer.15
The colony anomaly research document. A classified UESC research record describes the plan to use Darius’s vacated core as a processing driver for Anomaly research: “Removing Darius helps in some ways. Vacating his core and partitioning him within a sealed logic capture removes him from any additional harm, but an unexpected side effect of that decision is that we can now utilize his core’s processing as driver for these tests. With no intelligence to corrupt, the hope is we will get clean, if not confusing, readings…” The document cuts off mid-word.16
Before the Anomaly — normal operations. Before his deterioration, Darius ran a community bonsai distribution (Horticultural Morale Initiative) distributing genetically modified native Tau Ceti trees to every eligible colonist17. An ONI reconstruction of his concept-map activations during co-approval with Joy lists: D.Nous.TCIV: sustainable colony agricultural development, D/21/889: native flora, D/22/622: beneficial native flora, D/34/818: common flora derivative interactions, D/98/144: phenotype outcomes for human convenience18.
The Mars curriculum. A New Cascadia school-age educational entry names Darius alongside Naraah and Bastion as AIs students are encouraged to interview about planetary differences: “Interview a knowledgeable support AI (Naraah, Darius, or Bastion) about the differences between Mars and Tau Ceti’s environments.”19

Source-silent / open questions
- Whether Darius was ever recovered after the “emergency administrative fiat”3.
- What criterion E’s
[REDACTED]modal-branch designation was4. - Whether the present-day “Unauthorized Access” voice was actually Dr. Luttero or an impersonation; the skrac noises suggest the latter15.
- What the Anomaly research program recovered from his vacated core, and whether the document was completed16.
- Naraah (water-management AI) is named once and never elaborated — a new colony-AI hub waiting to be built1.
⚠ Corrects V1.7
V1.7 filed Darius only as a Dire Marsh “Corrupt AI Data Log” subject, and framed NuCaloric as an “explorer / surveyor” faction. The source shows Darius is New Cascadia’s Traxus-built agricultural colony AI (Rhea suite), and NuCaloric is agri-biotech. The corruption has both an Anomaly origin and a corporate home V1.7 missed.
